A servant leader seeks to serve others and achieve a vision. This includes a variety of leadership skills, including listening receptively and nonjudgmentally, humility, seeking feedback, and persuasion.


Humility is an essential aspect of servant leadership. Humble leaders recognize that they have areas of improvement and look to others for guidance. As a result, their teams are more engaged and productive.

One of the simplest ways to demonstrate humility is to admit that you’ve made a mistake. Taking ownership of mistakes can lead to better performance and more effective communication. It also lets people see you as a person, not just a boss. If you fail, your team might be hesitant to offer their own ideas or suggestions.

The best leaders know how to blend humility with confidence. This blend allows them to draw on other people’s strengths and abilities while keeping an open mind. When you’re humble, you’ll learn more quickly, and you’ll be able to grow.

Listening receptively 

If you want to be an effective servant leader, there is no substitute for listening receptively and nonjudgmentally. Practicing this skill will enhance your relationships and make you more productive.

Listening is not just about taking in information but also about recognizing and acknowledging the ideas, thoughts, and feelings of others. Doing this will enable you to build stronger interpersonal bonds, foster better communication, and develop stronger partnerships with your followers.

There are many different types of listening, from one-on-one conversations to large groups. But, the most effective listener is the one who can truly comprehend what the other person is saying. They must also be able to relate to their feelings and thoughts, demonstrating empathy.

Empathetic listening is the art of understanding what the other person is expressing through words and gestures. It is also a great way to show appreciation for a job well done or to let them know that you are there for them when they need you.

Providing honest feedback

For a leader to be effective, they must provide honest feedback. Providing feedback is a way to ensure that employees are satisfied and that they have a chance to improve. By asking for feedback, a leader can also learn about their employee’s needs, which may lead to a better management style.
